Exposure is the lightness and darkness of a photo, and the things that control the exposure are aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. The aperture controls your depth of field. If you have a larger f stop, it is a shallow depth of field, and if you have a smaller f stop, you have a longer depth of field. An example of this would be the six pictures of the coke bottles above. Shutter speed controls what a moving subject will look like. For example, if your shutter speed is 30 seconds, the shutter speed is really slow and will blur. I showed this in my other four pictures with a really fast shutter speed.
do you ever want to fix someones smile? Well, open the picture you want to use, then go to Filter then Liquify. Make your brush larger and fix that smile! We have all been in that situation where were at family parties taking group photos, and 20 pictures later you finally got one! But wait! There is someone crying or looking away! Well, with photoshop you can take another photo of that person and put it on the photo you have just taken. In the photo above, First, save both photos to your computer. Then use the lasso tool and go around the second face you want to use. Then use the move tool and move it onto the original photo. Then click on command "t" and size the face to the original one, and add a layer mask. then use a brush tool to blend the lines and erase the excess parts of the picture. Finally, use curves to adjust the color to match the other faces in the photo! To make a cool pattern, maybe for a holiday card, first you open a 1x1 inch (or smaller). Then draw whatever you want and then when you are finished go to Edit, Define pattern, and name your pattern. Next, open a 5x7 inch document. Finally, go to Edit, Fill, click on use pattern and then click yours!
Filling the frame is exactly how it sounds! this is when the photographer takes a picture of the subject using the whole frame. This technique allows the viewer to analyze every aspect of the subject such as texture and details you could only notice up close. Filling the frame can be accomplished by zooming in or cropping. If you have no background, you have achieved the skill of filling the frame!
Point of view is a cool way for photographers to show different perspectives on things. It is a good way to put a twist on a basic photo and show things in a different way. There are many different points of view a photographer can use such as worms eye, birds eye, and first person. The first picture of a flower is an example of worms eye view because it is as if a worms is looking through the lens. The second is first person point of view because the photographer is in the picture, and the third is birds eye point of view. This point of view is when the photographer is looking down on the subject such as the bird in the last photo.
Leading lines mean lines that lead you into the photo. These lines can be used to add depth and demension to a photo, making it more interesting. There are different types of leading lines such as liner lines, curved lines, and vertical/horizontoal lines. These lines do exaclty what it sounds like, they lead the viewer into the photo which makes them see every aspect of the picture. For exmaple, in the pier picture the lines of the wood leads your eyes all the way back to the photo making you take in everything about it.
To make a photo more interesting, you can use a technique called the rule of thirds. If you were to imagine your camera lens with grid over it, you would want to make sure your subject is in the outer grid squares. For example, the top photo with the starfish is not in the center and in the outer squares. As long as your subject is not in the center, then you are applying the rule of thirds. Another thing to know is that your subject should be directed toward the center of the picture. When looking at the second picture of the skydiver, it looks like he is jumping towards the center. This makes the viewer of the photo follow his body to look at the whole picture. if he was jumping out of the frame, then our eyes would follow him out of the picture and we wouldn't see the rest of the photo.
Thanks to photoshop, there are many ways to fix or improve photos that have been ruined by bad lighting, other random people, or they turn out crooked. Here are some ways to fix those things.
If you want to remove people from you family photo, you can use the clone stamp tool. This tool is a circle where you highlight it over an area that looks similar to the one you want to overlap the people with. For example, if you're with your family at the beach and there are people on the sand and the water, then you click the areas where the color and lighting is similar and then click over the people. If you want to add color to a photo such as the photo of the girl, then you use the brush tool and select your color, then adjust the harshness of the brush and opacity. If you want to straighten a photo, then you click the button next to the word straighten at the top of photoshop window. To put together photos like the melon head above, you have to use the different lasso tools and the move tools to move the pictures where you want. To add shadows and highlights like the picture of the tree and the ocean, you have to use the burn and dodge tool and turn up or down the exposure to get the effect you want. If you want to add a photo behind a word, then you have to type the word, then open a new page in photoshop to drag the picture in. Then you drag the picture into the tab with the text and option click between the two layers. Edward Weston was 20th Century American photographer.
